Hey! I was just in Ontanogon last month. It was a Sunday evening, I seem to recall, and stinking hot. (94F). I was on my way up to Copper Harbor.

By the looks of it, you had a great time touring the beaches of Lake Superior. As a kid I spent a lot of time on a beach close to Ontonagon (relatives lived on the lake). It was a fun place, but do remember times when those nasty sand flies were biting. Ouch!

Yep…the sandy beaches on the Canadian side are somewhat scarce. Much more on the American side of the lake.

I googled Robert Moses State Park. I wonder what it’s like today? I think the St. Lawrence River is relatively clean in that area.

Thanks for the great tour! Brings back memories of Jones Beach and most especially, Robert Moses State Park, when I was a little child and before they were spoiled by overpopulation. I didn’t realize that there were actual sandy beaches around some of the lakes — I thought people were just calling them beaches. Very beautiful.

These rank with your ski pix. When you decide to do Lake Huron, be sure to include Drummond Island MI at the east end of the UP. Go to the far SE corner and find a private road that leads to Big Shoal Bay: beautiful white sand, turquoise water, big boulders, sheltered bay away from big surf. Wade out for “miles” in shallow water.

Well, it was about 3600 km from my house, around the lake and back. But I spread it out over about 5-6 days, and spent a lot of time relaxing and swimming.

Books on tape helped.

There are also quite a few other beaches, but I only wanted to show the ones where Junior Bear was in the photo.
